SUMMARY:Guru Purnima Celebration\, Shantivan\, July 21
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Shantivan for Guru Purnima July 21st at 1:00 – All are welcome!\nWe will be performing a homa for Guru Purnima on Sunday (one day before the full moon) at Shantivan Ashram. \nGuru Purnima is a very important day to show gratitude for our Gurus\, (note: we have all experienced Gurus in our lives at some point – see below for definition) for all the helpers and the great souls along our spiritual journey. We show gratitude for Buddha\, mother earth and the memory of all the masters.  It is not a religious ceremony as much as it is a ceremony for oneself. \nThe purpose of the Guru Purnima celebration is to turn back and review and see in this last one year how much one has progressed in life. For a seeker\, Guru Purnima is a day of significance. It is the day to review one’s progress on the spiritual path and renew one’s determination and focus on the goal. – Sri Sri Ravi Shankar \nAs part of the celebration\, devotees present gifts in form of sweets and flowers to their spiritual gurus. It’s an ideal time to commence spiritual lessons from a guru. It is the day to begin your sadhana (an ego-transcending spiritual practice). \nBring a vegetarian potluck dish to share afterward. \nNote: What is a Guru? \nThe word Guru is derived from two words\, ‘Gu’ and ‘Ru’ . The Sanskrit root “Gu” means darkness or ignorance. “Ru” denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore one who removes darkness of our ignorance is a Guru. Gurus are believed by many to be the most necessary part of lives. On this day\, disciples offer puja (worship) or pay respect to their Guru (Spiritual Guide). It falls on the day of full moon. \nNote: What is a Homa? \nAny ritual in which making offerings into a consecrated fire is the primary action and it also the most mystical and cognitively powerful ritual as it is a removal of spiritual deficiencies. \n  \nFOR MORE INFORMATION \nCall  507-281-6649  \nEmail – mclaven@charter.net \nWind Over Fire Healing Arts Center \n4902 Wood Lane NW Rochester\, MN 55901 \n
